Co-creating digital commons
Our Hackathons bring together members of Boavizta, experts in responsible digital practices, and external contributors to collaborate on projects that assess and reduce the environmental impact of digital technologies. Open to everyone, whether you’re a developer, designer, researcher, or simply passionate about aligning digital technology with planetary limits, these events focus on producing tangible outcomes: improving tools, structuring data models, exploring new use cases, or conducting methodological analyses.
Our goal? To accelerate progress by mobilizing the community to create concrete contributions, such as data, use cases, and tool enhancements, in a short, collaborative timeframe.
Why participate?
Hackathons are a unique opportunity to learn, contribute, and connect:
Build skills for the future by working on real-world challenges in sustainable IT.
Make an impact by advancing open-source projects that shape the future of digital sustainability.
Meet like-minded people and grow your network in a collaborative, inclusive environment.
Past Hackathons
With over 10 editions since creation of the Boavizta association, our Hackathons have united a growing community to tackle real-world challenges in sustainable IT. Together, we’ve refined BoaviztAPI’s methodology, modeled cloud service impacts, developed visualization tools, and explored AI’s environmental footprint, all through collaborative, hands-on contributions. Here’s what we’ve accomplished so far:

Join the next edition : June 26, 2026
The next Hackathon is just around the corner! Join us very soon to collaborate, innovate, and contribute to open-source tools for a digital future that respects planetary boundaries.
Choose a chantier that matches your interests and skills:
EROOM: Test and improve this rapid diagnostic tool for assessing the environmental impact of digital technology in organizations. Open to all, no prior knowledge required.
e-footprint Open House: Get hands-on support to model your own digital project’s impact or explore the tool. Prepare your topic in advance!
BoAmps: Help improve this open database for standardizing AI energy consumption reporting. Open to all, especially those interested in AI transparency.
BoaviztAPI Enrichment (Azure Dataset): Contribute missing Azure server data to the API. Ideal for developers or data engineers familiar with impact calculation principles.
Impact, Risks & Opportunities Database: Expand this collaborative database with insights from reports (e.g., CSRD) and actions to address digital sustainability challenges. Open to all, RSE experience is a plus but not required.
